This week we read how Jacob marries Leah & Rachel, but truly loves Rachel. Every story in the Torah has innumerable secret layers of meaning. In the Divine Name, The letter "yod" is father/intuition, 1st "heh" is mother/understanding, the "vov" is son/emotions, and the final "heh" is the bride/manifestation.
Leah represents the 1st ה "heh" - the true depths of human understanding. Here you reveal your soul to yourself. Rachel represents the final ה "heh" - manifesting outwardly to the world through speech & action.
What's the deeper meaning of when the Torah says: וְרָחֵל֨ הָֽיְתָ֔ה יְפַת־תֹּ֖אַר וִיפַ֥ת מַרְאֶֽה - 'Rachel had beautiful features and a beautiful complexion'?
"Beauty" תִּפְאֶרֶת in Kabbalah means "harmony." True beauty exists when the disparate details of reality show the oneness of their Source. Divine Infinity is only revealed when shown in the darkest of places, by harmonizing the physical with the spiritual.
Beauty isn't the deep inner wisdom that Leah symbolized; it comes from the crazy world we live in being harmonized into the unity of the Divine as symbolized by the outer manifesting of Rachel.
Jacob loved Rachel because he saw with his higher vision that his purpose in life needed Rachel's spiritual energy to reveal Divine oneness outwardly in the lowliest of places.
Like our mother Rachel, may each of us light our own candle ["God's candle is the human soul' - Proverbs 20:27] and illuminate the darkness of the world with Divine awareness. Until soon we will merit an illuminated world:
“…I shall pour out My spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your elders shall dream dreams, your young shall see visions. In those days I shall pour out My spirit also upon the servants and handmaids.” [Yoel 3:1-2]
What's the deeper paradigm represented by the Biblical siblings Jacob & Esau, and Rachel & Leah?
