Why are we attracted to specific places, people, humanitarian causes? Why do each of us struggle with our own unique set of challenges?
The mystics teach that for nearly all of us, this isn’t our first time living on earth. If you’re reading this, you are likely a reincarnated soul with many past life experiences. And those experiences are nestled deep in your soul’s subconscious. You are here this time around to complete your original mission.
The challenges and hardship, as well as the joys and celebrations, are necessary for that to happen. As incomprehensible as pain and death is for us, the concept of “gilgulim” – reincarnation, can be of some solace.
How could we come to terms with a premature death? It may be that a soul had to return to a body just for a short time – even a few moments - to complete its mission. Your loving grandmother may have been your granddaughter in a past life, returning the favor. There’s so much behind the scenes that we don’t see.
It is said that the real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes. See your life as the final steps of a grand mission that only you can complete. Reframe some of life’s pain from haphazard to meaningful, for a reason you may not understand just yet. Ask Hashem for clarity in finding and fulfilling your unique purpose here.
This month of Elul is the perfect time to do that. May we all journey together to witness the completion of humanity’s mission on earth: The final redemption & a perfected world.
CHALLENGE: Take some time today to think about or journal what areas of good and holiness you gravitate towards. How can you devote more time to that area and share its light with others?
